End Game: Does Israel Have a Plan?

How Israelis envision and plan for the future of their countryDoes Israel have a plan? What does the country want to look like in 10 or 20 years? What borders does it hope to have? Will the West Bank or the Gaza Strip be part of it? Will the Palestinians residing the territories be granted citizensh

ip and become Israeli citizens? Does the country as a whole even know what it wants, what its goals are, or how to achieve them?Israel faces a fundamental question, a "trilemma." It can choose only two of three different goals many Israelis hold dear: to maintain control over the West Bank, with its

strategic and religious significance to Israel; to retain a clear Jewish majority, the goal of the Zionist movement that founded the state; or to remain a democracy, with full voting rights for all citizens. This trilemma has caused world leaders and publics, Israel-supporters and critics, to wonder

aloud time and again: what does Israel want? If it wishes to maintain its Jewish and democratic character, surely it must separate from the West Bank and its population; why then does Israel keep building in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, making such separation all the more difficult? And if

it plans to retain control over the West Bank, is it really willing to give up on either its Jewish nature or its democracy?End Game attempts to solve the puzzle of why the Israeli strategic vision seems so elusive to many foreigners and Israelis alike. It explores how Israelis' beliefs about their

future are formed and how their visions are translated into policy, focusing on three factors in depth: the role of security concerns, ideology, and domestic political constraints that combine to shape Israel's strategic posture. The book contrasts the full range of views in Israel over the future o

f the West Bank, from supporters of a bi-national state or confederacy on the left, to supporters of a "one state" on the far right of the political spectrum. It pays particular attention to the worldview of the political center-right, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a conservative, risk-a

verse and "anti-solutionist" approach to the problem. This worldview, following decades of precedent, rejects the need for a full-fledged strategic "solution" to the problem, leading to widespread confusion over Israel's goals. The book analyses and critiques this approach, arguing forcefully for en

ding Israeli indecision over the future of the land and in favor of partition and, eventually, peace. Dr. Natan Sachs is a fellow in the Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution. His research focuses on Israel’s foreign policy, its domestic politics, and on U.S.-Israeli relations

. Before joining Brookings, Sachs was a Hewlett Fellow at Stanford’s Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law, a Fulbright Fellow in Indonesia, and a Visiting Fellow at Tel Aviv University’s Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies.

Handbook of Air Quality and Climate Change

This handbook covers the air quality/air pollution from the viewpoints of causing impacts on human/ecosystem health and climate change. Traditionally, air pollution has been a concern mainly in terms of its impacts on human health, and it is still an immediate public and governmental concern in most

Asian countries. However, in recent years so-called extreme weather events, such as stronger tropical cyclones, flooding, drought, and other phenomena, have been manifested causing tremendous losses of human lives and properties. Importantly, climate models tell us that such extreme weather events

are actually induced by anthropogenic global warming. It has been pointed out that mitigation or alleviation of such climate change leading to the extreme weather events in the next 30 years can be possible only by reducing air pollutants with positive radiative forcing such as ozone or methane, whi

ch are called short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs). Here, concerns about mitigation of air pollutants from the points of human health and climate change have merged. This book covers different kinds of air pollutants and radiative forcers and how they can be measured. It also mentions the situatio

n of air pollutants in different continents and their regional impacts to human health, environment and economy as well as their link to extreme weather events. The book presents how the air pollution and climate change can be mitigated and how clean air technologies and international initiatives fo

r co-controlling air pollution and climate change have been developed. Dr. Hajime Akimoto received his B.S. in 1962 and Ph.D. in 1967 in physical chemistry from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. For his postdoctoral research he spent 3 years, 1969-1971, in the Department of Chemistry at the Unive

rsity of California, Riverside, and worked on the chemistry of photochemical air pollution. In 1974 he joined the National Institute for Environmental Studies in Tsukuba, Japan, as the head of the Atmospheric Chemistry Section in the Atmospheric Environment Division, and then served as the chief of

the Atmospheric Environment Division and Global Environment Division.Subsequently, Dr. Akimoto moved to the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at The University of Tokyo as a professor in 1993. In 2000, he joined the Frontier Research Center for Global Change, now under the Japan Ag

ency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology as the director of the Atmospheric Composition Research Program. After 2010 he served as director general of the Asia Center for Air Pollution Research in Niigata, Japan. Currently, he is a guest scientist at the National Institute for Environmental Studi

This research was conducted with the aim of testing and analysing the influence of influences factors (Health Consciousness, Environmental Concern, Social Influence, and Perceived Attributes) on purchase intention of plant-based food products, the effect of the role of Covid-19 impact as a moderato

r, and the influence of the role of attitude as a mediator. The questionnaire was distributed online to 338 respondents (283 Indonesian respondents and 55 Taiwanese respondents) using Google Form as the media. In processing the data, this research used Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS)

25.0 software and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 3 software. The results of this study indicate a direct influence of health consciousness, social influence, and perceived attributes on the purchase intention of plant-based food products. Covid-19 impact and a

ttitude also show a moderating and mediating effect on the influence of social influence and perceived attributes on the purchase intention of plant-based food products. However, there was no direct or indirect effect of environmental concern on the purchase intention of plant-based food products.
