The Bermuda Triangle: The History and Mysteries of the Devil’s Triangle

為了解決Result in result fro的問題,作者Charles River Editors 這樣論述:

*Includes pictures *Includes accounts *Includes online resources and a bibliography for further reading *Includes a table of contents "They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; these see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. For he commandeth, and raiseth

the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end." - Psalm 107:23-27 Most scientists believe that mankind was

originally spawned in the salty waters of the seas, and that over millennia creatures managed to evolve into today's primates. If this is so, the oceans have made it abundantly clear that have no desire to take their offspring safely back; from the time of the earliest sailing ships, there have been

countless accidents and tragedies where numerous lives were quickly lost. In fact, the planet's waters have likely taken more lives than all the wars in human history, so even though lifelong sailors live much of their lives on the water, they rightly fear it. For centuries, sailors were a supersti

tious bunch, and there are plenty of stories and phenomena that have defied easy explanation. The 15th and 16th centuries had their tails of sea monsters, and the 20th century had its tales about the Bermuda Triangle. What many don't realize about the latter is that the stories of mysterious disappe

arances in the Bermuda Triangle date back to the early days of the American republic. The first ships lost in that area, with its points at the tip of Florida, Puerto Rico and Bermuda, were powered by wind, not engines, and fewer questions were asked when they vanished because shipwrecks and other s

imilar disasters were more common. Thus, it was only later that questions about the Bermuda Triangle were widely raised. By the mid-20th century, there were rumors and tales that soon evolved into theories that ranged from the practical to the outlandish. Then, as satellite technology improved both

communication and navigation, the stories died down again, as it became easier to explain the previously unexplainable and to save those who might otherwise have been lost. Today, one rarely hears stories about the Bermuda Triangle, even as some of its greatest mysteries have never been solved, from

the disappearance of the USS Cyclops during World War I to the five TBM Avenger torpedo bombers that vanished in the area shortly after World War II. As a result, questions and conspiracy theories remain. Was there ever anything truly unusual going on in the Bermuda Triangle, and, if so, will it ev

er happen again? The Bermuda Triangle: The History and Mysteries of the Devil's Triangle looks at the history of the area, the mysterious disappearances, and the theories attempting to explain them. Along with pictures of important people, places, and events, you will learn about the Bermuda Triangl

e like never before, in no time at all.

The exploration of risk factors and effectiveness of cold-water immersion on gouty arthritis in Indonesia: A community-based study

為了解決Result in result fro的問題,作者MARIA DYAH KURNIASARI 這樣論述:

Background: Gout arthritis is an autoinflammatory arthritis caused by purine metabolism disorder that induce the deposition of urate resulting formation and urate crystal or monosodium urate (MSU) crystal in synovial fluid. Enhancing modifiable lifestyle variables such as smoking habits and blood p

ressure control are effective ways to reduce the burden of illness instances of gout. Objectives: The specific aims of this dissertation were to: (1) analyzed the impact of smoking behaviors (active smoking and exposure to Second-hand smoking (SHS)) and its synergistic effect with BMI on gout disease

risk among Indonesian (Study I); (2) explored the mediating effect of blood pressure between urate level and risk of gout in Indonesia utilized the partial least squares-structural equation model (Study II); (3) investigate cold-water immersion intervention on pain level, joint mobility, physical a

ctivity, stress, anxiety, depression, and quality of life among acute gout patients: a community based-randomized controlled trial (RCT) (Study III).Methods: Study I This study conducted among 385 healthy controls and 81 gout patients using a case-control based community study. A validated questionn

aire on demographic characteristic and smoking behaviors was completed by all respondents. Body Mass Index, blood pressure, and urate level were all measured during the physical examination. The adjusted odds ratios (AORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were presented to build the multivariate l

ogistic regression model. Moreover, synergistic impact investigated utilized logistic regression with interaction analysis. Study II This research was performed on July 1 to August 31, 2019, by using the community based case-control study in Indonesia. We randomly selected 397 individuals from seven

community health service centers, comprising 86 gout patients and 311 healthy controls. After adjusting for other variables, multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to examine the AORs of the relationship between risk factors including urate level and blood pressure and risk of gout. The

mediating effect of systolic blood pressure on urate level and gout was investigated using a path analysis. Study III A community-based randomized control trial design with two parallel groups of intervention: cold-water immersion group [(20~30 °C) 20 minutes/day for 4 weeks] and control group. 76

eligible participants with acute gout recruited using a multi-stage sampling method in Tomohon city, Indonesia and randomly assigned using block randomization. A generalized estimating equation model analyze the results (coef. β) and 95% confidence interval. A path analysis to analyze mediating eff

ects. Results: Study I. Compared to non-smokers group, for active smoking and SHS, the AORs and 95% CIs for gout were 3.26 (95% CI=1.07~9.90) and 4.67 (95% CI=2.18~10.00), respectively. The duration of smoke in active smoking (>23 years) and SHS (>31.5 years) enhanced risk of gout significantly, by A

ORs and 95% CIs of 5.95 (1.41~25.03) and 10.12 (3.51~29.14). Active smokers (>16 cigarettes/day) and SHS (>20 cigarettes/day) show a significant dosage effect with AORs and 95% CIs of 5.15 (1.28~20.63) and 4.37 (1.33~14.28), respectively. Gout risk was enhanced by active smoking >20 pack-year and SH

S >26.5 pack-year, by the AORs and 95% CIs of 7.18 (1.53~33.67) and 9.95 (3.64~27.22). Smoking of 20 cigarettes (1 pack) each day in 1 year is equal to 1 pack in 1 year. Compared to Body Mass Index ≤24.9 kg/m2 and non-smoker participants, smoker (active smoking and SHS) participants and with Body Ma

ss Index of >24.9 kg/m2 had a synergistic effect to enhanced gout risk with an AOR of 9.65 and 95% CI of 3.25~28.65. Study II. The study discovered that after adjusting for covariates, raised of urate level of a 1 mg/dL elevated gout risk significantly by the OR of 4.97 (95% CI: 3.48-7.09) and the A

OR of 4.44 (95% CI: 3.07-6.42). The relationship between urate level and gout risk was signifinat partially mediated by systolic blood pressure (β = 0.05; 95% CI Bias Corrected [0.02-0.08], p < 0.001). Study III. Significant pain alleviation (β=-2.06; -2.42), improved joint mobility (β= 1.20, 1.44),

physical activity (β= 2.05, 0.59), stress (β= -1.25; -1.35), anxiety (β= -0.62 =-1.37) and quality of life (β= 5.34; 9.93) after cold-water immersion at the 2nd-week and maintained at 4th-week time points, compared to the pre-test and control group. Depression (β=-1.80) decreased at the 4th-week co

mpared to the pre-test and control group. Cold-water immersion directly (β=-0.46, p= 24.9 kg/m2 escalate risk of gout among participants in Indonesia. Urate level was associated significantly with risk of gout and was probably mediated by the raised systolic blood pressure among Indonesians. Contro

lling systolic blood pressure possibly be one of the techniques for lowering gout risk for people with hyperuricemia. Cold-water immersion decreased pain, stress, anxiety, depression, and increased joint mobility, physical activity ability, and their quality of life. It mediated alleviation of pain

to increase quality of life.

Technology and Tradition in the Eastern Arctic, 2500 Bc-ad 1200: A Dynamic Technological Investigation of Lithic Assemblages fro

為了解決Result in result fro的問題,作者Sorensen, Mikkel 這樣論述:

Introducing a new dynamic technological methodology to Arctic archaeology, Technology and Tradition in the Eastern Arctic provides a comprehensive overview of lithic stone-tool production--the lithic cha nes op ratoires--in Palaeo-Eskimo groups of the easternmost Arctic. Beginning with a survey of t

he various kinds of lithic materials available in the region, Mikkel S rensen examines the tool-making process--from procurement of raw materials, through production, use, modification, and eventual discarding--of each of the Palaeo-Eskimo tool types. As a result, the formal tool types of several Pa

laeo-Eskimo cultures of Greenland are defined, and two previously unknown cultures are identified in the Thule region. The book successfully demonstrates the efficacy of the dynamic technological methodology in researching the prehistory of the Palaeo-Eskimo culture. Mikkel Sørensen is a postdocto

Hybrid Wavelet-LSTM-CNN for water level forecasting in Thailand, Chao Phraya Basin

為了解決Result in result fro的問題,作者馬錦成 這樣論述:

Flood is a Thailand’s chronic issue, that affected people, social, economic and cause devastating damage especially the great flood in 2011. The accurate forecast model can enhance water management capability and help related agents for making a decision in a critical situation to avoid such a terr

ible disaster.AI advancement in recent years has solved previously unsolvable problems and increase options for a data-driven approach. But in the hydrological, only a few researchers have explored AI potential and develop a novel approach. We develop a data-driven based framework for 72 hours water

level prediction at CPY012 station in Chao Phraya River, Ayutthaya. In this paper, we conduct experimental to searching for preprocessing that appropriate with the problem and comparing various statistic, machine learning and neural network model on the forecast, including ARIMA, SARIMA, Vector Auto

regression, Multi Linear regression, Support Vector Regression, Random Forest, LSTMs, CNNs, and our new proposal hybrid model wavelet-neural network. We found that feature selection and wavelet transform can improve neural network accuracy. The result showed that our hybrid wavelet-LSTM-CNN has the b

est performance with the least error MSE at 0.05, RMSE at 0.22, NSE at 0.91, and R-square 0.92 in whole year evaluation perspective. However, for monsoon season when heavy rain and flood frequency occur, the result slightly less than SARIMA with MSE at 0.03, RMSE at 0.17, NSE at 0.56, and R-square 0

.61 but still better than other Machine learning and neural network model.
